Martin Hinteregger from Eintracht Frankfurt "was on the verge of a total crash"

Martin Hinteregger (28) said he was “on the verge of a total crash”. The central defender of Eintracht Frankfurt struggled with depression during his move from Augsburg to SGE.

Hinteregger also writes about this in his book “Inner View”, which was published on August 11, 2021 by KATi-Verlag. Also in an interview with the Austrian daily newspaper Upper Austrian news Hinteregger spoke of “screwing up a lot of crap myself” and “falling into a depression” during this time.

That was at the beginning of 2019. “I got up in the morning, was totally overtired. I got into the car, turned on the radio – and my head exploded. Every sound exhausted me brutally, drained my strength,” explained the international.

According to his own statements, Hinteregger never thought of a suicide similar to Robert Enke. “But it was already very dark around me. I was on the verge of a total crash,” says Hinteregger.

Today he is stronger than ever. In addition to the psychological support in the club, Hinteregger works with “a pool of specialists”: “a nutritionist in Frankfurt, a sports psychologist, former pole vault world champion Tim Lobinger as athletic trainer and sports therapist Josef Percht-Iurlov, a long-time companion of Marcel Hirscher”, he listed.
