Rooney wants to remain loyal to Derby despite bankruptcy

The English football idol Wayne Rooney wants to remain loyal to his staggering traditional club Derby County despite bankruptcy proceedings. “I have said many times that I feel obliged to this club, the players and the staff and that I care about them. My job is to give the club back some pride and dignity,” said the coach of the second division club on Saturday after the 2nd : 1 win over Stoke City.

The association announced on Friday that it had submitted a letter of intent to appoint an insolvency administrator.

“The pandemic had a severe impact on the club’s sales, so the club was no longer able to meet its day-to-day financial obligations,” the statement said.

Derby was recently unsuccessfully looking for a new owner. Rooney, a 120-time England international, took over as coach in 2020.

He found out about the bankruptcy proceedings on television, which was “not ideal” for him. The club, which has ten points after eight games, is now threatened with a point deduction.
