After this failed transfer, Hoeneß freaked out

Although Bayern Munich would have liked to sign Marco Reus, he moved to BVB. Much to the displeasure of the then FCB boss Uli Hoeneß.

In his biography ‘Meine Spielzüge’, consultant Volker Struth gave an insight into the mood of those responsible for Bayern after the failed transfer from Marco Reus to the German record champions in the summer of 2012.

“I called Bayern Munich’s President Uli Hoeneß to clear up the mood,” the advisor recalled. But the then Bayern boss was not very good on Struth after the failed deal.

Hoeneß attacked Struth after Reus had burst

“The way you led Karl-Heinz Rummenigge by the nose is absolutely cheek! I don’t have much to say to you, except: You are a persona non grata here!”, Hoeneß replied.

After long negotiations, Reus finally decided against FC Bayern Munich and moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Borussia Dortmund for 17 million euros.

Although, according to Struth, the change was absolutely correct, he can also understand Hoeneß’s displeasure: “Bayern Munich hates to lose, not only on the field, but also on the transfer market.”
