Tobias Schweinsteiger takes over VfL Osnabrück

Tobias Schweinsteiger (40) is the new coach of the third division club VfL Osnabrück.

For the brother of former national soccer player Bastian Schweinsteiger, it is the first job as head coach in professional soccer, most recently he was assistant coach at 1. FC Nürnberg. Schweinsteiger will succeed Daniel Scherning, who has moved to Arminia Bielefeld.

“The talks with those responsible at VfL were not only interpersonal, but also really good in terms of content. That’s how the decision matured in me to definitely want to accept the challenge at VfL,” said Schweinsteiger, who started his first training session with the club on Tuesday Twelfth in the table: “I addressed the decision openly at 1. FC Nürnberg and thank those responsible for giving me this chance with their approval.” He celebrates his debut on Saturday at VfB Oldenburg.
