FC Bayern – After a tantrum: Fröhlich sharply criticizes Nagelsmann

German referee boss Lutz Michael Fröhlich has heavily criticized Julian Nagelsmann for his tantrum on Saturday. “I find it profoundly disrespectful to use the term ‘pack’, no matter what perspective you take on a situation,” said Fröhlich sports1 about the coach of record-breaking soccer champions Bayern Munich: “Then the understanding on the part of the referees ends.”

Nagelsmann had spoken disparagingly towards the referee team around Tobias Welz (Wiesbaden) after Bayern’s Bundesliga defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach (2: 3). “Is he kidding me?!” and “softened pack” is said to have said Nagelsmann, who was upset about the red card against Dayot Upamecano (8th) after an emergency brake.

Nagelsmann had apologized on Saturday evening via social networks. Nevertheless, the control committee of the German Football Association (DFB) has started investigations. The 35-year-old is threatened with punishment by the DFB sports court.

“It’s not about punishment for me, that’s not my issue at all,” said Fröhlich: “It’s about much more: How do you deal with different perspectives and opinions? And how do you deal with decisions that don’t live up to your own expectations? Where is that supposed to lead if it always leads to bigger headlines and conflicts?”

Fröhlich also had some advice ready for Nagelsmann: “Just take a deep breath, pause and don’t always use the public stage to present yourself and your perspective as the only right one.”
