Lothar Matthäus thinks Mané's suspension is right

Record national player Lothar Matthäus believes the suspension of Bayern Munich’s star player Sadio Mané in the wake of the Watschn affair is correct. “He behaved wrongly and has to accept the penalty. There have been disputes like this in the past, not only at FC Bayern, but also at other clubs,” said the former Bayern professional RTL/ntv.

Mané is said to have beaten his teammate Leroy Sane after the bitter 3-0 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League at Manchester City last Tuesday.

On Thursday, Munich announced that Mané would “not be in the Bayern squad” against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (3:30 p.m.). Bayern also imposed a fine.

According to Matthew, the affair must be quickly checked off. “I’m assuming that he has apologized. That has to be the end of the matter. You should close the chapter now and look ahead. Of course something like this shouldn’t happen, it shouldn’t happen. But you can see that the pressure and the dissatisfaction, especially from Mané, is very great,” said Matthäus before Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League quarter-finals against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday (9 p.m.).
