"The problem is solved!" Netherlands national coach Ronald Koeman praises BVB attacker Donyell Malen

Donyell Malen has received plenty of praise from Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman after his strong performances for Borussia Dortmund. The bonds coach sees Malen as a solution to a problem area at Elftal that has existed for years.

“We’ve had a problem on the right wing for several years, but he plays everything on the right wing at Dortmund and scored another goal yesterday. The solution is there,” praised Koeman on the Dutch TV show Godemorning Eredivisie.

Koeman is not surprised that the 24-year-old was finally able to celebrate his breakthrough at BVB: “He didn’t surprise me, because Donyell made his debut during my first term as national coach. However, that was as a striker. Of course I was happy that he will play on the right flank in Dortmund because that was a solution for us with a player who is also used to it.”

After Malen had already been labeled a transfer flop, the 21-time Dutch international convinced with convincing performances in the second half of the season. In the 5-2 win against Gladbach at the weekend, the right winger shone again with a goal and two assists.

This season Malen has appeared in 33 competitive games, scoring ten goals and having eight assists.
