Former Bundesliga professional Valerien Ismael (45) will coach the English second division soccer club West Bromwich Albion. As the Premier League relegated announced on Thursday, the Frenchman is leaving Barnsley FC early and signed a four-year contract.
According to media reports, West Brom will pay a transfer fee of around 2.3 million euros. The former defender succeeds Sam Allardyce.
Ismael had just barely missed promotion to the Premier League with Barnsley last season. Before his engagement in England he worked as a trainer at VfL Wolfsburg and 1. FC Nürnberg.
As a professional, Ismael had played in Germany for Werder Bremen, Bayern Munich and Hannover 96.
