1. FC Köln – Steffen Baumgart takes on the critics: "Barbarically gets on my balls"

Coach Steffen Baumgart responded to the criticism after the defeat of his 1. FC Köln in the Conference League against Partizan Belgrade with clear words.

“We should learn to accept some things anyway – especially in Cologne,” said Baumgart on Sunday before the derby at Borussia Mönchengladbach DAZN-Microphone.

The criticism after the 1-0 defeat in the European Cup during the week annoyed the Cologne coach. “When I lose 1-0 in Cologne against Partizan, a team that is absolutely class internationally and has been there for ten years, even though I played well. And then I listen to the comments and hear what we don’t can, then it gets on my balls.”

Baumgart literally talked himself into a rage. “The team gave everyone in Cologne last year to experience this evening. Dealing with the team like that gets on my balls barbarically,” added the 50-year-old.

In general, in his eyes, the reactions to the latest results of his team, which had won 3-2 against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga last week, were too extreme. “Somehow it’s too quick thumbs up, thumbs down. After Dortmund we were almost champions and after Partizan we were almost relegated. That just pisses me off. I don’t want to deal with it and I don’t accept it either,” stressed Baumgart .

Steffen Baumgart: “Can also talk about old times again”

He also introduced himself to his team: “My boys work hard every day. If you can’t live with it in Cologne or think you know everything better – we can talk about the old days again. Luckily we don’t have to.”

Baumgart led 1. FC Köln back into the European Cup last season for the first time in 25 years. With 13 points from the first eight games, Effzeh also had a good start to the season in the Bundesliga.
