1. FC Köln with a loss of 3.9 million euros

1. FC Köln posted a loss of 3.9 million euros in the 2020/21 financial year due to the pandemic. However, the financing of the current season was secured, announced the Rhinelander on Saturday at the general meeting. The previous year’s loss was 23.8 million euros.

“The effects of the corona pandemic cost 1. FC Köln a lot of substance in the 2020/2021 season,” said Chief Financial Officer Alexander Wehrle. The pandemic-related loss of revenue in the past season, when almost exclusively ghost games took place, amounted to 53 million euros, according to official information.

Wehrle: “In addition to the corresponding cost savings and the countermeasures introduced again, such as the waiver of wages for players and those responsible, this enormous financial burden could only be alleviated by special income in the form of forfaiting sponsorship proceeds or internal corporate restructuring.”

Wehrle thanked the season ticket holders and sponsors, who would have contributed to the improvement in results with renewed waivers. The courtesy of the City of Cologne and the Kölner Sportstätten GmbH in connection with the stadium lease was also highlighted in this context. As a result, the billy goat club still had very stable equity of around 17 million euros as of June 30, 2021.

With 140.6 million euros, the first Bundesliga champions presented an improved earnings trend compared to the previous year (122.5 million).
