RB Leipzig - 1. FC Köln 3: 1: Nkunku dream goal paves victory against harmless billy goats

With the fourth bankruptcy in a row, Arminia Bielefeld has slipped down to a direct relegation zone in the Bundesliga. At FSV Mainz 05, East Westphalia lost 0:4 (0:1).

Frank Kramer was visibly served. He took a deep breath and then disappeared into the players’ tunnel with his hands in his jacket pockets. Four bankruptcies in a row and slipping to a direct relegation zone increased the pressure on the coach and the Arminia Bielefeld team after the 27th matchday.

The 0:4 (0:1) defeat at FSV Mainz 05 with the Bundesliga novelty of three penalties, which were converted by three different players in the second half, revealed the great weaknesses of Arminen.

Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt struck after just 27 seconds. Moussa Niakhate (65th), again Burkardt (75th) and Marcus Ingvartsen (79th), each with a penalty kick, made the decision.

Arminia remained without their own goal for the fourth time in a row – and equaled the club’s negative record from the previous season. Mainz, on the other hand, converted their penalties 34, 35 and 36 in a row and celebrated a big party with the fans after the final whistle. Exuberantly, the FSV professionals climbed the fence and extensively celebrated the victory.

Mainz – Bielefeld: Three penalties within 14 minutes

“We put in a really good performance. This win feels good,” summarized the suspended Anton Stach skywho was called up to the senior national team for the first time by national coach Hansi Flick: “I’m happy about that too, but I’ll put that on the back burner.”

A mistake in the goal-line technology caused a stir in the game with an alleged FSV goal in the first half, which was corrected by referee Felix Zwayer.

The corona situation had eased in both teams before the game. Bielefeld’s coach Kramer was back on the bench after surviving the infection, FSV coach Bo Svensson was almost able to draw on the full.

In view of the offensive doldrums, Kramer had called for “more movement towards the goal”, but that remained a pious wish. The attacking momentum developed in front of 25,000 FSV fans when Burkardt struck after 27 seconds after preliminary work from Silvan Widmer and scored for the first time in eleven games. Even after that, Mainz remained the clearly better team against shockingly weak guests.

Mainz – Bielefeld: goal-line technology failed

A curious scene followed. After a header from Moussa Niakhate, goal-line technology apparently indicated that the ball had crossed the line (15′). Zwayer gave the goal, but correctly corrected it after a tip from the video assistant and viewing the pictures.

But the East Westphalians didn’t see anything of the decent performance in Dortmund (0: 1) last time. Kramer’s eleven were just as lucky with a header from Dominik Kohr (20′) to the aluminum as with numerous quick Mainz attacks. Bielefeld only came forward dangerously once through Patrick Wimmer (43rd).

Mainzer had another chance to improve the result with Burkardt hitting the crossbar (49′). There was no reaction from Bielefeld. Instead, Karim Onisiwo (60th) missed again before substitute Manuel Prietl violently fouled Leandro Barreiro from Mainz – Niakhate converted safely. After another foul by Andres Andrade on Barreiro, Burkardt scored for Mainz and Ingvartsen went one better from the point.

According to opta, Mainz is only the third Bundesliga team to score three penalties in a game (Stuttgart 1985/86 and Bayern 2011/12). However, the 05ers are the first team with three different goalscorers from the point.
