Alexander Nübel reveals the reason for the failed change

Alexander Nübel spoke for the first time about the failed move to FC Bayern Munich in the winter. The goalkeeper named his current club, AS Monaco, as the reason. “They didn’t want to let me go,” he said in the current sports studio ZDF.

However, Nübel sees this as a “good sign”. Although moving to Bayern Munich would have been “a huge task” for him, his focus is on Monaco.

After Manuel Neuer’s injury, the 26-year-old was considered the favorite for the interim solution until the summer. “The transfer window is open until the end of January, anything can happen in football. The decision is up to Monaco,” said Nübel at the time.

In mid-January, however, the topic was “off the table”, as his agent Stefan Backs said sky announced. FC Bayern ultimately decided to sign Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach. In Munich, the Swiss signed a contract until 2025.

“It was an important step for Bayern to get another goalkeeper,” Nübel commented on the transfer. However, he left open whether he would return to Munich himself in the summer. “I want to go where I can get match practice,” said the former Schalke player. With Manuel Neuer and Yann Sommer, there would be a great risk at Bayern that he would not get them.
