Anthony Modeste after the equalizer against FC Bayern: "I complained a bit during the week"

After his late equalizer for BVB in the top game against FC Bayern Munich, Anthony Modeste revealed that he had complained to his team about the few crosses in his direction. In addition, the striker spoke about his unhappy time in Dortmund.

“I won’t make a secret of it: I complained a bit during the week because I didn’t get enough crosses,” said Modeste after the game sky. “I said: Boys, we don’t have to play so sexy anymore, we have to be effective. When I say something, it’s always meant in a positive way for the team.”

For the often criticized 34-year-old, who had only scored one goal after his transfer from 1. FC Köln to BVB, the second goal of the season at the last second against Bayern was a salvation: “After my move, it was very, very difficult. I’ve gotten a lot under wraps. But I’ve seen everything in football. I just have to stay positive and think about myself. I’ve always believed in myself because if I don’t do it, who will do it for me?”

However, Modeste was not entirely satisfied – because he would have preferred to have gotten three points: “We want to be champions. Of course it’s better to take a point than none at all. But if you play for BVB, you have to win games like this because you too play at home.”

The attacker could have taken care of that himself, but in the 83rd minute he missed a big chance with a score of 2:2 in front of Manuel Neuer. “I should have scored two goals, but that can happen. Sometimes you think these are the easiest chances, but often those are the hardest,” Modeste said of the scene.

Modeste also provided the template to make it 1-2 through Youssoufa Moukoko, who has now been preferred up front twice in a row. “I’m also happy for Mouki because he has worked very, very well in the last two or three games and deserves to score a goal. We are a family,” said Modeste.

Coach Edin Terzic also praised Modeste for his performance over 20 minutes: “Tony was also instrumental in the first goal. The way he unselfishly played the ball across was outstanding. Not only was he happy, but the whole team, the whole stadium gave it to him. We are very happy that he was able to reward himself in this way.”
