Benjamin Pavard deals with farewell to FC Bayern Munich

French defender Benjamin Pavard is considering saying goodbye to FC Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old confirmed this L’Equipe.

“I have a lot of respect for FC Bayern, because that’s where I got to know the highest level,” said the world champion, but added: “I’m not averse to taking on a new challenge. Maybe now is the right time. Why not a new country , discover a new culture? But the sporting project has to be interesting.”

Pavard still has a contract with the German record champions until 2024. Last summer there was repeated speculation about the defender leaving. If the former Stuttgart player does not extend the contract by the end of the season, a departure should become an issue again, as the Munich managers certainly do not want to lose the player on a free transfer in 2024. According to the national player, there are currently no concrete talks about an extension: “At the moment I’m concentrating on the World Cup,” says Pavard.

With Noussair Mazraoui, Pavard, who has nonetheless made 20 competitive appearances this season, has had strong competition at Bayern’s right-back position, and the Frenchman is still flirting with a place in central defence.

When asked what role his position would play if there were a change of club, he replied that he should be scheduled “at least” as a central and full-back.
