Maria KeaneCEO Thomas Hitzlsperger hands over his position at Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart to Alexander Wehrle earlier than planned.
Hitzlsperger’s contract, which runs until October 31, 2022, will be terminated prematurely at the end of this month, and Wehrle will be promoted to CEO on March 21. “VfB must focus fully on the goal of staying up in the league. A smooth, professional transition to the position of CEO is the best thing for this now,” said Hitzlsperger.
Wehrle should “take the lead unaffected and be able to implement his ideas for the new season. I’ll clear the way for that.”
Former national player Hitzlsperger has been the CEO of VfB since October 15, 2019. He returned to Stuttgart in the summer of 2016 as an advisor to the board.
