Gladbach does not have to sell any players

Borussia Mönchengladbach made a loss of 14.6 million euros in the 2021 financial year. The red numbers are a direct result of Corona, said managing director Stephan Schippers at the general meeting on Monday evening. A year earlier Gladbach had posted a loss of 16.7 million. The five-time champion still has equity of 71.8 million.

“In a league comparison, that’s a very respectable result,” said Schippers. In total, Borussia recorded a loss of 100 million in sales in two Corona years, 70 million of which were made up for by savings.

“As Borussia, we got through this period very well, especially economically. We’re not satisfied in sporting terms, we haven’t achieved our goals,” said President Rolf Königs. Borussia finished last season in tenth place and thus for the first time since 2010/11 not in a single digit.

There was prolonged applause when Königs remembered the former sports director Max Eberl, who had resigned exhausted in January after 23 years at the club. “He deserved the applause,” said Königs: “Max Eberl has done a good job for us in 13 years as a sporting manager. We will not forget what he did for us. We were sad on the day of his resignation.”
