BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke: “Stable foundation” despite the crisis

Despite further losses, Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke is satisfied with the financial development of the Bundesliga club. He also supported Edin Terzic and Sebastian Kehl at the BVB general meeting on Sunday in Westfalenhalle 3.

“The third year of Corona is behind us. We had a consolidated loss of 35 million euros. That was the weakest loss of the Corona period, but we couldn’t work against it,” said Watzke.

After three years “in complete crisis mode”, the club “is still on a stable foundation. The fact that we don’t have a single euro in liabilities today after a loss of 151 million euros makes us a little proud,” said Watzke. After the slump in the previous year, sales rose again to 419 million euros, the record (494 million) dates from the 2017/18 season.

When looking at the sporting situation, Watzke called for patience. “Before the season we knew that we were in a situation of upheaval, that has mostly borne fruit, but it will take time,” said the 63-year-old. Sebastian Kehl as sports director and Edin Terzic as coach stand for the “Borussia-Dortmund way”, promised the club boss: “Both work with passion for the club. We are 100 percent convinced of this solution and we will be successful with it”. ,

“We shouldn’t be impressed by the table of matchday 15. We lost one of the best nines in the world in Erling Haaland,” Watzke called out to the members.
