BVB loses in Cologne: Julian Brandt and Edin Terzic express criticism

Dortmund gave up a game in Cologne that they had completely controlled. The frustration is correspondingly great.

Midfielder Julian Brandt strongly criticized Borussia Dortmund’s performance in the 2-3 win over 1. FC Köln. After a 1-0 half-time lead, BVB conceded three goals in a short space of time and ended up losing. “We eat up the three goals relatively quickly, Cologne turn the game around in a relatively short period of time. Of course, that must not happen,” complained the international sky.

“It’s clear that we’re playing away here, it’s a great setting and it’s not easy. But that doesn’t justify defending like that in the second half,” Brandt said of his team’s defensive performance after the break.

He himself was still one of the better players in his team and in the meantime put BVB 1-0 ahead. In view of the final score, his joy was limited: “We played a good first half with many great chances. You could have done yourself a favor by adding more, scoring the second goal. We’ll come in the second half out and defending it very poorly.”

Coach Edin Terzic was also in first place in the table given the defeat and the missed jump: “If you see how we fought the duels in the first 15, 20 minutes of the second half, then we shouldn’t be surprised that we conceded two goals.”

The coach also struggled with the fact that it was games like the one against Cologne that prevented Dortmund from “constantly knocking on top”. Terzic reasoned: “Because it happens repeatedly that we simply give away games that we completely control.”
