Corona vortex again at FC Bayern

Julian Nagelsmann apparently missed a duel with Benfica Lisbon

Corona alarm at Bayern Munich again: There were three new COVID-19 cases with the German record champions on Wednesday. In addition to defender Josip Stanisic, two members of the support staff tested positive. This is reported by several media. FC Bayern did not want to comment on this at first.

Next corona shock for Julian Nagelsmann. The Bayern Munich coach has just got his quarantine kickers around vaccination skeptic Joshua Kimmich back when the virus strikes again. This time, according to matching media reports, Josip Stanisic and two members of the supervisory staff were caught – the trio is positive.

The German record champions initially did not comment on the message. But due to the recent vortex, the preparation for the Bundesliga derby at FC Augsburg on Friday (8.30 p.m. / DAZN) was severely disrupted.

Especially since there were also new headlines about Kimmich and Co. on Wednesday: The quartet is allowed to go to Augsburg, but there may not be in the team quarters because of the 2G rule. However, there could be an exception for business trips.

Stanisic and Süle are sure to fail

Stanisic, the national player Niklas Süle, who tested positive on November 8th, and the two supervisors will certainly be missing. All four are in quarantine.

Stanisic tested positive after his return from the Croatian national team. The 21-year-old is double vaccinated and symptom-free. On Sunday he was able to celebrate the Qatar ticket with the World Cup runner-up after the 1-0 win against Russia.

Now the cold shower followed – also for Nagelsmann, who would like to leave the annoying corona issue behind. On Tuesday he seemed to be on the right track when, after Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Süle’s other contacts, Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala, came out of isolation.

FCA sees its chance

Gnabry and Musiala immediately returned to the field, Kimmich should follow on Wednesday. At the same time, other national players arrived from their qualifying appearances, and the crucial phase of preparation for the derby was about to begin.

But first it had to be clarified what effects the recent cases would have on the team. The good news: apparently none. Stanisic and Co. are said to have had no contact with other players, so there were no further quarantine measures.

The FCA still sees its chance. “Bayern Munich wins nine times in ten games, we need a creamy day. But the goal is to score – and it is also possible to win,” said coach Markus Weinzierl: “We have already done it twice in my time.”

In April 2014, Weinzierl’s first term in office with the Swabians saw the only home win against Bayern, and in May 2015 they even achieved an away win (1-0 each). The recipe? “We have to take away the fun of football and be disgusting,” said Weinzierl.
