BVB, News: Stefan Effenberg praises Edin Terzic for dealing with Marco Reus and Mats Hummels
Stefan Effenberg positively rated the way Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic moderated the reserve roles for Marco Reus and Mats Hummels.
The BVB coach “made brave decisions and was rewarded for them,” Effenberg wrote in his column for t-online: “These decisions are certainly not easy for these deserving players. But I like the way Terzic argued. He said you don’t have to accept them, but respect them. He hits the right note with that.”
Terzic stressed on Friday that the recent non-consideration of the two veterans in the Champions League round of 16 against Chelsea was not “too negative”. “We have now decided not to use the two. But we know how important they are. There are still so many tasks that we have to deal with and where we will need them both,” said Terzic.
Effenberg described Hummels’ bench position as correct, “because Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck have meanwhile got used to it and again didn’t concede a goal”. All in all, it’s “solely about the success of the team. So it’s understandable that he’s currently relying on other players,” added the former international.
Effenberg highlighted the in-form Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt. “He’s a very different player than he was in the first half of the season,” Effenberg wrote of Adeyemi, who scored the winning goal against Chelsea. Brandt is now also performing at a consistently high level because he feels that the coach is counting on him. And also Emre Can “finally does the simple things and doesn’t try to do too much”.
BVB, News: Borussia Dortmund records more profit
Borussia Dortmund has now overcome the financial cuts during the corona pandemic. As the listed BVB announced in an ad hoc announcement on Friday, the club recorded a consolidated profit of 40.2 million euros in the second half of 2022, which is 7.2 percent more than in the same period last year.
The sales figures are also on the up: sales rose by 9 million euros in the first half of the current fiscal year, which ended in June. The total turnover was thus 221.6 million euros.
BVB also recorded additional income in the areas of match operations, TV marketing and merchandising. The result from transfer transactions in the past first half of the year was 61.7 million euros, which is an increase of 1.5 million euros compared to the previous year. Personnel expenses rose by EUR 2 million to EUR 112.3 million.
BVB, News: Does Edin Terzic give Sébastien Haller a break against Hertha?
Borussia Dortmund is aiming for the eighth win in the eighth competitive game of the calendar year against Hertha BSC on Sunday (5:30 p.m.). Coach Edin Terzic could change his successful team a bit. For example, captain Marco Reus, who was on the bench for 90 minutes in the CL round of 16 against Chelsea, could rotate into the starting eleven.
A break for striker Sébastien Haller, who had made a successful comeback after surviving cancer and started four times in the past five games, is also conceivable. “Throwing Sébastien in every three days after this long time is of course a circumstance that needs some adjustment,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl recently.
Anthony Modeste could move into the storm center for Haller. Donyell Malen is also an option on offense. “He really puts his foot down in training and Youssoufa Moukoko’s injury puts us in a new situation up front,” explained coach Terzic.
Estimated lineup:
Dortmund: Kobel – Ryerson, Süle, Schlotterbeck, Guerreiro – Can – Reyna, Bellingham, Reus, Brandt – Malen
Berlin: Christensen – Uremovic, Kempf, Dardai – Richter, Cigerci, Plattenhardt – Tousart, Serdar – Ngankam, Niederlechner
