First offensive usury of opportunities, then a defensive dropout: RB Leipzig was rudely thwarted in its race to catch up in the Bundesliga.

The team of coach Jesse Marsch, despite clear superiority in the meantime with feared opponents Eintracht Frankfurt, did not get more than 1: 1 (1: 0) and missed the first jump to a Champions League place. After all, the Saxons remained unbeaten in the sixth game in a row.

Late in stoppage time, Tuta (90th + 4) equalized after Yussuf Poulsen’s opening goal (35th). For the tie kings of Eintracht, the sixth draw of the season was nothing more than a sign of caution. With just one win in the first ten match days, coach Oliver Glasner’s team is still deep in the table, at least the SGE remained unbeaten in the seventh home game against Leipzig.

Both teams are challenged in the European Cup during the week. While Eintracht has to play away at Olympiacos Piraeus on Thursday, the premier class hit against Paris St. Germain awaits Leipzig on Wednesday.

Sorely missed in Frankfurt, so far unhappy at RB – many eyes were directed at returnees Andre Silva in Deutsche Bank Park. “I’m a little excited and looking forward to my return,” said the Portuguese, who had moved to Saxony for 23 million, before the game. So far, he has only scored two goals in the Bundesliga, and the search for his “right position” is still ongoing, explained coach Jesse Marsch.

Forsberg with a crazy miss – Tuta has the last word

In his starting line-up he found no position for Silva on Saturday, Poulsen was preferred in the striker. And the Dane had the first big chance in front of 31,000 spectators, but failed free-standing from five meters to Kevin Trapp (10th). In general, however, an even game developed initially, in which Eintracht compensated for the lack of midfield heartbeat Sebastian Rode and Kristijan Jakic, at least defensively.

The SGE only developed an offensive danger through Filip Kostic, a slipped flank of the Serb hit the crossbar (18th). RB made a lot of simple mistakes in this phase, so hardly got any speed in his attacking actions. Significantly, it needed a standard as a can opener. Orban extended an unauthorized corner at the short post, Poulsen only had to push in.

Eintracht looked shocked, Dominik Szoboszlai left two other high-profile players lying before the break (38th, 44th). Even after the change, Leipzig showed the more mature game system, had the game under control without shining. After 65 minutes, Silva came into the match accompanied by whistles, but first Trapp had to prevent the early decision against Christopher Nkunku (69th) with a brilliant save.

From Frankfurt came too little offensively, a long-range shot by substitute Sam Lammers (74th) was still the most dangerous. Emil Forsberg (88.), standing free, missed the final decision with a crazy miss in front of the empty goal – and that was to take revenge, Tuta was there after a free kick with his head.
