Ex-Schalke coach Andre Breitenreiter is apparently a candidate for Hütter's successor

After the departure of Adi Hütter, Borussia Mönchengladbach is desperately looking for a new coach. Like the Swiss newspaper View reported, ex-Schalke coach Andre Breitenreiter is one of the possible successor candidates.

According to image information, BMG sports director Roland Virkus is currently holding talks in Switzerland with potential candidates for Hütter’s successor. Breitenreiter is tied to FC Zurich until 2023. He recently won the Swiss championship with the club.

The 48-year-old previously played for SC Paderborn, FC Schalke 04 and Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga. He finally signed on in Zurich last summer and led the club to their first championship title since 2009.

Virkus himself did not want to comment publicly on the search for a coach. “We solve that internally. Our task is to draw conclusions from the processing of the season.”

In addition to Breitenreiter, ex-trainer Lucian Favre is another candidate. The Swiss was under contract with Borussia Dortmund until December 2020 before he was relieved of his duties after a 5-1 defeat by VfB Stuttgart.
