FC Augsburg - TSG Hoffenheim 0: 4: Kramaric show! Hoffenheim dismantles FCA

After the cup in Mönchengladbach and the bankruptcy against Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Bayern conceded their third competitive defeat this season. On the 12th Bundesliga matchday, Julian Nagelsmann’s team surprisingly lost 1: 2 (1: 2) at FC Augsburg.

Mads Pedersen put the FCA in the lead in front of 26,000 spectators in the WWK-Arena (23rd), Andre Hahn followed suit (35th). Robert Lewandowski let the hopes of the guests germinate again before the break (38th). After a storm run by Munich in the second round, it remained a surprising victory for Augsburg.

FC Augsburg – FC Bayern Munich: The analysis

Although two important offensive forces, Niederlechner and Vargas, were not available to him, FCA coach Weinzierl sent a largely well-rehearsed and rested team into the race against the record champions.

His counterpart Nagelsmann, however, had to improvise significantly more after the exhausting international break and the corona vortex around Kimmich, Süle and Stanisic. Richards started on the left rail for the exhausted Davies, while Sabitzer replaced Kimmich.

The difficult accompanying circumstances made themselves felt for the guests, they had problems defensively as well as offensively with the courageous and motivated approach of the Fuggerstadters. The Augsburg center in particular, with Maier and Dorsch, worked extremely well and left little room for the artists on the other side to develop.

The first serious shot on Gikiewicz’s goal was Lewandowski’s goal in the 38th minute. However, technical errors and poor allocation put the Nagelsmann-Elf in a lot of trouble that evening. At both Augsburg goals, the defense around Hernandez and Upamecano looked anything but good.

Nagelsmann reacted shortly after the break and let two invigorating elements run with Musiala and Davies. Augsburg defended with man and mouse from the 65th minute at the latest, Bayern left some great chances to equalize.

FC Augsburg – FC Bayern Munich: The data of the game

  • Gates: 1-0 Pedersen (23rd), 2-0 Hahn (35th), 2-1 Lewandowski (38th)
  • Müller played his 600th competitive game for FCB – as the first field player since the Bundesliga was founded.
  • Lewandowski scored his 11th goal in the stadium of FC Augsburg – only Gerd Müller had scored that often against a Bundesliga team (11 times against Schalke 04).

The star of the game: Andre Hahn (FC Augsburg)

Fight self-sacrificing, now and then on the verge of what is allowed. With his commitment he was by far the most important man that evening at FCA – and scored the winning goal with his head.

The flop of the game: Marcel Sabitzer (FC Bayern Munich)

Came too late for the first goal and also initiated the second with his loss of the ball in his own half. Another weak, sleepy performance by the newcomer, which Nagelsmann rightly replaced after 52 minutes.

The referee: Daniel Siebert

He let a lot go through and used his cards sparingly, which was particularly beneficial for the courageous hosts. However, every decision by Siebert was defensible.
