FC Augsburg - TSG Hoffenheim 0: 4: Kramaric show! Hoffenheim dismantles FCA

RB Leipzig received a first and completely unnecessary setback in the third game under coach Domenico Tedsco. At the relegation-threatened FC Augsburg, the Saxons had to be content with a 1: 1 (1: 0) despite great, sometimes oppressive superiority and a multitude of best opportunities. Daniel Caligiuri (85th) equalized the early lead of the guests by Andre Silva (19th) with a hand penalty.

“We can be satisfied with the point, we are happy to take it with us,” said substitute Caligiuri, who rewarded his strong and powerful team with an equalizer in the second half. At this point the game could have been decided long ago. “In the first half we were lucky that we were only 1-0 down,” said Augsburg manager Stefan Reuter Sky.

The Leipzig, for whom the substitute Nordi Mukiele headed the post (73rd), missed the leap to the Europa League place and their first away win since April due to the draw. Augsburg, for which Sergio Cordova headed the crossbar (80th), remains on the relegation place, but has caught up with VfB Stuttgart on points (17) in the table.

Because captain Jeff Gouweleeuw was absent due to a yellow card suspension, FCA coach Markus Weinzierl had to offer a different formation in defense for the twelfth time in the 16th game of the season. Augsburg was deep in their own half and lurked on the counterattack, but hardly got around to it. Offensive actions got stuck in the beginning, this only changed in the second half.

Leipzig was of course determining the game from the start, kept the ball in its own ranks and combined well forward. The guests found gaps in Augsburg’s defense early on. Silva used his second chance to take the lead and shortly afterwards almost added a header that just brushed the bar (25th).

Leipzig loses control after half time

A deflected shot from distance by Jan Moravek (28th) was the first good opportunity to equalize for the FCA, but initially remained a flash in the pan against the concentrated and ball-safe Leipzig. The Saxons, in turn, had to reproach themselves for not playing through their many good and often beautifully played opportunities consistently enough.

Augsburg came out of the break with momentum, as usual, showed more pull to the goal and had good opportunities to equalize through Reece Oxford (51st) or Arne Maier (60th). Leipzig now seemed a little insecure on the defensive, losing control more and more. And missed the best chances up front, such as by Silva (72nd) or Mukiele.

FC Augsburg – RB Leipzig: The voices

Markus Weinzierl (FC Augsburg coach): “In the first half we had too much respect, we didn’t get access. In the second half we were more courageous. We are happy with the point. We want to improve now in Fürth.”

Domenico Tedesco (trainer RB Leipzig): “We played a very good game, especially in the first half, we had a good structure, we created a lot of good chances. We just have to score. If you lead 2-0 at half-time, it would have been possible “Then you play it completely differently in the second half, then you defend it more relaxed. So it is of course disappointing to get the goal and go home with only one point.”
