FC Bayern - Choupo-Moting extends his goal streak: "Then the coach is reluctant to give it up"

Eric Maxim Choupo-Maxim scored for the third time in a row with his goal at TSG Hoffenheim. While there was renewed praise from coach Julian Nagelsmann, the striker was already looking forward to the upcoming meeting with Robert Lewandowski in the Champions League.

“There’s no real secret, we’re training very well. I trust in my own qualities and in those of the team,” said the only real nine in Bayern’s squad after the 2-0 win.

“When you play and score like that – and that’s the crucial thing for the striker – the coach doesn’t like to give it up,” Nagelsmann said of Choupo-Moting’s third consecutive starting eleven nomination: “It’s a good feeling for us that we have more as an additional alternative in the squad. A full-fledged head-forward who works and nails the ball well.”

In general, Nagelsmann raved about the performance of his team: “The first 35 (minutes; editor’s note) were world class from us. Extremely good football, a lot of goal area scenes and a very good opening of the game.”

The FCB coach also thanked goalkeeper Sven Ullreich, who made “world-class saves” twice in the first half.

Choupo-Moting warns against Barca: ‘Their last chance’

Meanwhile, Choupo-Moting is looking forward to Wednesday’s Champions League game against FC Barcelona. “It’s always something special. We have to take the game 100 percent seriously,” said the 33-year-old, who expects a difficult game given Barça’s impending elimination in the group stage: “It’s their last chance.”

He is also “looking forward” to seeing his former strike partner Lewandowski again. “He’s a world-class player,” added the Cameroonian, who has a good chance of starting again.

Sadio Mané, who was initially on the substitutes’ bench against TSG, can also have hopes. “Sadio played a lot. We need him on Wednesday with 100 percent freshness. It will be a prestigious duel in Barcelona,” said Nagelsmann before kick-off.
