FC Bayern: Despite the usury of opportunities - that's why Nagelsmann sees a "step forward"

18:9 shots on goal, but in the end only a 1:1 draw. FC Bayern had numerous chances in Hoffenheim, but could not use any of them to win. Coach Julian Nagelsmann still sees a “step forward”.

In the press conference after the 1-1 draw in Hoffenheim, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann asked with a smile whether more people would have problems with graying their hair.

“I don’t think they’re bad, but I just only get a few. I usually miss them beforehand.”

Before the game, the coach probably didn’t expect that his hair growth would play a role that afternoon. And yet the question of a report, which inquired about the connection between the lack of chances on the one hand and Nagelsmann’s hair growth on the other hand, was of course justified.

FC Bayern fired 18 shots on goal in Hoffenheim at TSG’s box – but only one was in there. Because Thomas Müller (27’/42′) or Robert Lewandowski (46′) were offside, goalkeeper Oliver Baumann made a strong save (like in the 55th minute against Leroy Sane), Serge Gnabry (68′) and Jamal Musiala (69′). ) warped or defender Stefan Posch (73rd) saved on the line.

Nagelsmann struggles with space: “Fart dry”

The usury of chances ensured that after the furious 7:1 in the Champions League against Salzburg a few days later, it was only enough for a 1:1 draw.

And also the bad place? “That’s not a criticism of Hoffenheim’s groundskeeper – but the pitch was dry as a whistle. You could see from the shots that the ball bounced a few times after making contact with the foot,” Nagelsmann recognized as another reason for his strikers’ many shot tickets .

With the second draw in a row (previously also 1-1 against Leverkusen), FC Bayern lost feathers again in the league – and yet Nagelsmann was satisfied.

“I’m a fan of always watching attractive football matches. It was a very good game for the fans,” said the coach sky. “I’m also happy with the performance over long stretches. We had a strong first 20 minutes, where we had a lot of good ball wins and good attacks. The chances even resulted in three goals, but they were all minimal offside. The risk management was good, we had good control – even if it was an open game at the end.”

FC Bayern: More control, less risk

And indeed, FC Bayern impressed with a lot of possession, especially in the second half, dominating the action and creating numerous opportunities.

The wild FC Bayern, where there was often a sudden fire even against bottom Fürth (4: 1), presented themselves in Hoffenheim as the game went on as ripped off and mature, as offensively highly dangerous and at the same time defensively almost always stable enough. The counter-pressing worked, and TSG could hardly find relief.

“If I compare the game with the performances of the last few weeks, it’s a step in the right direction – even if it’s just a point, bizarrely,” said Nagelsmann about his team’s performance.

But the record champions didn’t score quite as confidently as it seemed in view of the goal shot statistics. Especially in the first half, Hoffenheim presented problems for Bayern with many aggressive ball wins and raid-like attacks.

“It was bitter for us that we fell behind, but we got into the second half better and performed better than in the first half. If we play two halves like that, we win the game,” said Manuel Neuer, who was back. “We found a healthy balance, we didn’t want to lose the game under any circumstances.” The Bavarian mantra this afternoon: more control, less risk!
