Maria KeaneFelix Magath can’t do much with the approach of modern coaches like Julian Nagelsmann. “I don’t believe in what you do today. So to judge and build the game tactically alone,” said the 68-year-old image asked about the coach of FC Bayern.
“That manifests the mediocrity and makes the game uninteresting. The tactic is part of the game, but it’s not the decisive one,” explained Magath: “Whether I play offensively or defensively is part of the strategy. That’s why I have my players never put into a tactical concept. Sometimes we won without tactics. “
Magath was Bayern coach from 2004 to 2007 and won the double with the record champions twice in a row. Nevertheless, he was released in January 2007 and replaced by his predecessor Ottmar Hitzfeld.
During his time in Munich, Magath repeatedly had problems with the manager at the time, Uli Hoeneß, revealed the native of Aschaffenburg. “I accept everyone as they are, including Uli Hoeneß. But he has different interests in football. I had no thirst for power and money. That is more to be found with Uli Hoeneß,” said Magath.
Hoeneß simply determined many things, said the former national player. But he had “made the maximum out of his possibilities, his point of view.”
After his commitment to Bayern, Magath moved on to VfL Wolfsburg, which he made champion in 2009. After stints at Schalke, Wolfsburg and Fulham again, he last coached the Chinese club Shandong Luneng Taishan until 2017.
