After the 2-1 defeat in the DFB Cup against SC Freiburg, Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic put himself in front of new coach Thomas Tuchel to protect him.
“It’s bitter for all of us, but that has nothing to do with the coach,” said the sports director: “It’s a process. He makes a very good impression. It was bitter for all of us today, but it will continue on Saturday .”
After the elimination, the entire team was “dejected and disappointed” because they again failed to maintain “the energy or number of strokes” that are needed for a DFB Cup evening.
The bottom line is that this is not the fault of Tuchel. The new FCB coach is doing a “very good” job, continued Salihamidzic.
With the 2-1 draw against Freiburg, FC Bayern failed early in the DFB Cup for the third time in a row. They had previously reached at least the semi-finals 11 times in a row between 2009/10 and 2019/20.
