FC Bayern: FCB has discarded the Bundesliga lethargy
It was the topic at Bayern after the furious start to the season: Is coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team even interested in the Bundesliga? While the triumphant advance in the Champions League continued, there were five games without a win between the third and ninth match days. The interim high after the 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen was dampened again by the missed victory at BVB (2-2). However, the two most recent successes suggest that the German record champions are now aware of the importance of the competition again. Nagelsmann’s words, who spoke of a “grown-up performance” after the triumph over Hoffenheim, made this clear.
“I’m very happy with the performance because we’ve been very successful in the last few games and we’ve come to the threshold of the path we want to take,” said the visibly satisfied FCB coach, playing on the ups and downs in in the Bundesliga: “And then there’s a game where the team has to make a decision: do you continue or do you do a bit less because it was good again?”
And Bayern continued! “The first 35 (minutes; editor’s note) were world class from us. Extremely good football, a lot of goal area scenes and a very good opening of the game,” enthused Nagelsmann sky and emphasized the tackle rate in this phase (71 percent): “That’s exceptionally good for Bayern Munich, who generally have a lot of the ball.”
During this period, FC Bayern did not let themselves get into trouble due to the high pressure from the Kraichgau team, which was reminiscent of the way FC Augsburg played against Bayern during the week in the DFB Cup, and kept calm in the build-up. TSG fired just three shots on goal in the entire game, which Manuel Neuer’s substitute Sven Ulreich parried brilliantly.
After the break, what happened far too seldom this season: Bayern switched to administration mode and did not allow the opponent a hint of hope like in the days of Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola, but still had an influence on the outcome of the game to have. To put it simply: you were “sovereign”, as Nagelsmann emphasized.
With Mainz 05, Hertha BSC, Werder Bremen and Schalke 04, there are four more games to come before the World Cup break that require an “adult” attitude. But before that, it’s about confirming the form again against FC Barcelona, an undoubtedly high-class opponent – not only because of Robert Lewandowski – in the Champions League on Wednesday. Because Nagelsmann also knows, as he said at the press conference in Sinsheim: “You always have to win at Bayern, then everything is great.”
