FC Bayern Munich: FCB coach Julian Nagelsmann relies on Benjamin Pavard

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann has made it clear that he still considers Benjamin Pavard to be an important member of the team after João Cancelo’s signing. A change of defender in winter is obviously not an option.

“I’m planning with him, like in the past few months,” said Nagelsmann at the press conference before the DFB Cup round of 16 against FSV Mainz 05 (Wednesday, 8.45 p.m. in LIVETICKER) when asked about Pavard. Recently there has been speculation about a change in the 26-year-old.

“He played a lot with me, without Lucas (Hernández, editor’s note) we have one player less inside, he will play more inside than last. He always did well there,” Nagelsmann said in relation to Pavard clear. “Upa always has a few ailments and needs a break, as does Matthijs (de Ligt, editor’s note). He gives us a good element in central defense. He’s an important part.”

Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that FC Barcelona continued to keep an eye on the Frenchman. However, Barça is not planning any transfer talks with FC Bayern before the deadline on Tuesday. Instead, according to the report, the Catalans want to start negotiations for Pavard in the summer.

He himself is also very interested in moving to Spain. There has been speculation for a long time about Pavard’s intentions to change next summer, but his contract with FC Bayern runs until 2024. In the current season he was on the pitch 23 times for FCB, 18 of them from the start.
