Maria KeaneBayern Munich makes good on a promise and invites its critical fans to a round table with the bosses on the subject of Qatar. CEO Oliver Kahn and President Herbert Hainer will take part in the dialogue on July 4 (5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.). In addition to the fans, representatives of the Qatar World Cup OC, human rights organizations and former members of the federal government have also been announced.
The panel will be moderated by the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen. The aim is an “objective and direct dialogue about German and Qatari society, about criticism from human rights organizations and about the partnership between FC Bayern Munich AG and Qatar Airways”. According to the record champions, this should lead to “better mutual understanding”.
Said deal has been a hot topic for many critical Bayern fans for years. At the most recent general meeting, it had led to turbulence and an almost split between the supporters and their heart club.
After its training camp in Doha in January 2020, FC Bayern announced that it would convene a round table on the matter. This subsequently failed due to the pandemic restrictions, it said.
It is “important” for Bayern that committed fans have their say on this subject, as they write in a message to their members. “Conversely, the Qatari participants should be given the opportunity to make comments and questions about Germany, German society and how their country is perceived in Germany,” it said.
