FC Bayern Munich - Lothar Matthäus: "Bouna Sarr is not a Bayern player"

Lothar Matthäus suggests a change of club to Bouna Sarr from the German record champions Bayern Munich. “Sarr is simply not a Bayern player,” writes Matthäus in his Sky-Column.

Like his predecessor Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann “doesn’t count at all” on the French, said the 60-year-old. That was shown by the change against Eintracht Frankfurt (1: 2), when coach Nagelsmann brought in midfielder Marcel Sabitzer (75th) for Niklas Süle instead of the trained right-back Sarr.

“I would have wanted to flee the stadium in his place,” wrote Matthäus: “If he wants to play and not just get his check at the end of the month, he should look for a new club.”

Only sports director Hasan Salihamidzic was convinced of this transfer and “paid some money for Sarr despite the financially tense Corona situation”. The 29-year-old came from Olympique Marseille in October 2020 for eight million euros and had a contract until 2024. He has played 21 competitive games (one goal) for FCB so far.

Matthäus called the fact that Nagelsmann Sabitzer came on as “surprising”. The tactical variant with the Austrian “backfired” because the Frankfurt winning goal by Filip Kostic fell over his side (83rd). Sarr would not have brought Matthäus either, but youngster Josip Stanisic.
