FC Bayern, News: Nagelsmann has no feared opponent

With the perfect result of 18 points from six games, FC Bayern Munich made it to the round of 16 of the Champions League. After the 3-0 win against FC Barcelona, coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke about the possible opponents in the knockout round.

“If I were to name one, it would be psychologically the least intelligent thing I can do,” said Nagelsmann at the press conference after the game against the Catalans.

As usual, he continued: “Imagine the opponent is then drawn to you. Then the players say: ‘Look, the coach shits his pants in front of it.'” Nagelsmann wanted to prevent that. “I take care of the things that I can influence. The draw is not one of them,” he added.

The drawing will take place next Monday. Among other things, the German record champions could meet PSG, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid or Chelsea.

FC Bayern, News: Müller criticizes Barca

Thomas Müller has assessed the current situation of FC Barcelona. “I didn’t see it coming in the group that they end up going down like that,” he said after the 3-0 win over the Catalans, who are hibernating in the Europa League.

“They are great individual players from a technical and tactical point of view. But they cannot keep up with the intensity that is currently prevalent in top-class football. We made use of that,” added Müller.

FC Bayern: Beck talks about 2008’s top game

Andreas Beck commented on the top game of the 2008/09 season with TSG Hoffenheim against FC Bayern. The climber from the Kraichgau had become autumn champion after a very strong first half of the season.

“That was the most explosive and most watched game in Hoffenheim’s history worldwide. And it was enormously charged emotionally,” said Beck in an interview with the kicker about the top game on the 16th matchday. At that time TSG had three points ahead of FCB.

The then coach Ralf Rangnick had given the team a lot of self-confidence. “We don’t want their jerseys, we want their scalp,” said Manchester United’s interim coach at the time. “That was exactly the direction in which we were heading, we want to hunt them down and annoy them, even in the Allianz Arena,” explained Beck.

Although it was the first season in the Bundesliga for most of the players, Bayern took Hoffenheim “very seriously,” said Beck. In the end, his team lost just 2-1 due to a goal from Luca Toni in stoppage time.

“Sure, at first. But we were also proud with a bit of a gap. Absolutely everyone looked at this duel, and we withstood the pressure and met the expectations of such a top game despite the defeat. Something like that is not a matter of course,” stated Beck.

FC Bayern: Neppe new technical director

Bayern Munich has given its previous chief scout Marco Neppe more responsibility and promoted him to technical director. In addition, the German record champion appointed Michael Gerlinger, previously Director Legal, Personnel and Institutional Relations, as “Vice President Sports Business and Competitions” of his AG.
