FC Bayern vs Borussia Dortmund

FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are in the closest race for the German championship in a long time. But who has the supposedly easier rest of the program for the last five games? SPOX provides an overview.

After BVB took over the lead in the table after matchday 29 with 60 points from FCB (59), the two teams are only separated by one point. In the five remaining matches in the Bundesliga, the Munich team have to hope that their arch-rivals slip up in order not to end up without a title. The tree in the background is also on fire.

Dortmund can not only break through Bayern’s ten-year dominance, but also has the best chance of winning the ninth championship in the club’s history. The last time that happened was in the 2011/12 season with coach Jürgen Klopp.

So one thing is clear: Although both clubs can look back on a not exactly high-quality season, excitement is guaranteed in the season finale.

But who has the better cards on paper? SPOX shows the remaining program of Dortmund and Bavaria.

BVB vs. FC Bayern Munich: Matchday 30 (April 28th to 30th)

  • April 28: VfL Bochum – BVB (8.30 p.m.)
  • April, 30th: FC Bayern Munich – Hertha BSC (3.30 p.m.)

On Friday evening, BVB has to play in the small Revierderby and can initially pull away to four points with a win. Due to the clear 1:5 swatter against VfL Wolfsburg on the last matchday, Bochum is still stuck in the relegation battle.

Bochum can’t really afford to lose two points behind the relegation place, but Dortmund certainly comes along with a lot of self-confidence.

Things are even worse for Berlin’s Hertha, who, despite the return of coach Pal Dardai, suffered a 4-2 defeat against Werder Bremen and were therefore unable to give up the Red Lantern. There is currently no major favorite role for Bayern in the Bundesliga.

Especially since the last victory of the old lady in Munich was an incredible 46 years ago. But how was that again with the battered boxers?

FC Bayern Munich vs. BVB: Matchday 31 (May 5th to 7th)

  • May 6: Werder Bremen – Bayern Munich (6.30 p.m.)
  • May 7th: BVB – VfL Wolfsburg (5.30 p.m.)

For the top game on Saturday, Bayern visit the promoted team from Bremen. The advantage: Werder doesn’t go up much anymore, staying up in the league is almost certain. But Niclas Füllkrug and Co. will certainly not give the game away – the former rivalry and prestige alone are far too great for that.

Borussia Dortmund will have it a little harder the next day. VfL Wolfsburg still has legitimate hopes of qualifying for the European Cup. Possibly the former FCB coach and player Niko Kovac comes into the game with extra motivation.

BVB vs. FC Bayern Munich: Matchday 32 (May 12th to 14th)

  • May 13: FC Bayern Munich – Schalke 04 (3.30 p.m.)
  • May 13: BVB – Borussia Mönchengladbach (6.30 p.m.)

Again Bayern have to play against a basement child. For Schalke 04 it will probably be against relegation until the last matchday. The former top game should be a clear thing on paper, but the royal blue will put everything in three games before the end.

Borussia Dortmund can look forward to the second game in a row at Signal Iduna Park in the top game. In the Borussia duel, the signs are also completely different. For the foals, too, it’s probably about nothing, Gladbach could already have given up the season. A bonus game?

FC Bayern Munich vs. BVB: Matchday 33 (May 19 to 21)

  • May 20: FC Bayern Munich – RB Leipzig (6.30 p.m.)
  • May 21: FC Augsburg – BVB (5.30 p.m.)

Matchday 33 has not been held at the same time since last season – Bayern and BVB will play on different days again.

Bayern start in the top game against RB Leipzig and ex-Dortmund coach Marco Rose. He might give his former team a belated gift. For the Saxons it will very likely still be about qualifying for the Champions League. There are certainly easier opponents two games before the end.

Such as that of BVB. Borussia Dortmund is a guest at FC Augsburg.

Since the Fuggerstädter will probably also play against relegation until the end, that will not be a sure-fire success either. Bayern have felt that twice this season. Black and yellow won the spectacular first leg 4:3.

BVB vs. FC Bayern Munich: Matchday 34 (May 27)

  • May 27: BVB – Mainz 05 (3.30 p.m.)
  • May 27: 1. FC Cologne – Bayern Munich (3.30 p.m.)

At the season finale, BVB can look forward to their third home game in the last five games. So the championship trophy could be presented in Dortmund.

Borussia receives Mainz 05, which may be playing for the European Cup places. Bayern had to painfully realize last matchday that coach Bo Svensson’s squad shouldn’t be underestimated.

FCB, on the other hand, has to go to Cologne. For FC, who is also about to stay up, it is probably only about the final placement.

FC Bayern Munich vs. BVB: Conclusion

So both teams still have three home games to play – and only play twice on the same day.

Borussia Dortmund goes into the game as the clear favorite in each of the five games – a slip is not really in sight. The toughest opponent is likely to be Mainz 05, while Bayern have to master the uncomfortable tasks against Leipzig and Schalke 04.

So the momentum speaks against the team of coach Thomas Tuchel – especially since in his first seven competitive games as FCB coach with three defeats in all competitions he had to suffer as many as his predecessor Julian Nagelsmann in the entire season. There are also two draws and only two wins.

If both teams are actually tied in the end, everything speaks for the eleventh championship of Munich in a row. With a plus of 46 goals, they are 19 goals ahead of BVB.
