FC Bayern, News: Another corona case at FCB

FC Bayern Munich apparently has another corona case to complain about. According to image information, goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic also tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. The newspaper did not provide any further information about the health of the 41-year-old. A confirmation from the club was still pending.

FCB previously reported that the previously unvaccinated players Joshua Kimmich and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had tested positive for the virus. “The FC Bayern midfielder is doing well,” wrote the club about Kimmich’s infection.

The national player had caused heated discussions in recent weeks because he was not vaccinated against the virus. As an unvaccinated contact person for a corona infected person, the 26-year-old was last in quarantine anyway and missed the derby at FC Augsburg (1: 2) and the Champions League group game at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday (2: 1). After returning from Kiev, Kimmich’s club colleague Choupo-Moting had also found a positive test, Choupo-Moting was also in quarantine.

Shortly before the report to Kimmich, there were signs that he was about to be vaccinated. “I think that Jo is going in the direction of getting vaccinated,” said national coach Hansi Flick on Wednesday afternoon: “In the future, I think there will be no other way.”

FC Bayern, News: Rummenigge wants variety

Michael Rummenigge is hoping for a little more excitement in the Bundesliga title race. The brother of long-time FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would also have nothing against another champion.

“In general: Bayern is number 1, Dortmund is number 2 – the quality of the squad also reflects this ranking. But as nice as ten championships in a row would be for the Munich team, the Bundesliga would also benefit from a change at the top,” wrote Rummenigge in his kicker-Column. However, BVB must “play consistently well” to do this.

Dortmund stayed in the Bundesliga thanks to work victories against Cologne and Stuttgart, but BVB suffered a major setback in the Champions League with the 1: 3 defeat at Sporting Lisbon and the associated missed the second round.
