FC Bayern, News: FCB against PSG for Matthäus Favorit

The Champions League draw gave FC Bayern the clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16. “Unfortunately, light is something else,” wrote Lothar Matthäus in his sky-Column: “But the truth is also: the very best time of Lionel Messi and Neymar is over.”

Although Messi and Neymar are still able to decide a game with a single action, the 61-year-old said: “Not to mention Mbappe, because today he is an absolutely top-class player and there are not many like his have quality.”

“But I think when it comes to the compactness, the attitude, the will and the team spirit and the collective, Bayern is a little bit ahead. The three tenors from Paris are known to not like to work backwards, which is in my eyes is perhaps the biggest advantage for FC Bayern,” said Matthäus.

That’s why he sees coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team “slightly favoured, because they harmonize better”. The 1990 World Champion decided that small things such as the form on the day and the current trend would ultimately decide who would make it into the quarter-finals.

FC Bayern, News: Coman and Neuer comment on PSG

The FCB managers around Oliver Kahn, Hasan Salihamidzic and Julian Nagelsmann are not exactly enthusiastic about Los PSG. The same goes for Kingsley Coman, who scored the golden goal against France in the 2020 final.

“That could almost be the final,” said Coman: “But okay, we have to take it as it comes. And we’re facing a very difficult opponent with outstanding individuals. We won the 2020 final, 2021 we narrowly failed in the quarter-finals, so now it’s our turn again.”

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is looking forward to the round of 16, although “a tough chunk” awaits there: “We have had good and negative experiences against Paris. Our defensive performance will be important because they have a concentrated offensive power with the well-known names. If we are good and bring the power forward, progress is definitely possible. It’s a duel on an equal footing.”

FC Bayern, News: Salihamidzic cancels loan

Nick Salihamidzic has called off his loan from the Vancouver Whitecaps. In a video on Instagram, the son of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic described the move to Canada as a “big mistake”.

The 19-year-old right-back was loaned out by Bayern’s second team to the reserves at the MLS club in July. Actually, Salihamidzic should stay in Vancouver until the end of 2023. However, he only made five appearances with the Whitecaps.

Salihamidzic is said to be training again at Bayern II next week. He is then expected to join a new club in the winter.

FC Bayern, News: Allianz Arena is being rebuilt

After Bayern’s Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen (8:30 p.m. in LIVETICKER), the Allianz Arena will be prepared for the NFL game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks (Sunday, 3:30 p.m.). Among other things, lines and benches still have to be set up.

Most of the work was already done in the summer. The playing field was extended by four meters to almost 110 meters. In addition, some walls were torn down and new showers installed to create enough space for the 53 players plus coaches of an NFL team. The NFL paid for it itself.

FC Bayern, News: Expected line-up against Bremen

Munich will have to do without Alphonso Davies (torn muscle fibre), Matthijs de Ligt (knee problems), Thomas Müller (muscular problems), Buona Sarr (knee surgery) and Josip Stanisic (tonsillitis) against Werder.

Expected line-up FC Bayern: Neuer – Mazraoui, Pavard, Upamecano, Hernandez – Kimmich, Goretzka – Gnabry, Musiala, Mané – Choupo-Moting
