FC Bayern is apparently not planning to sign a new centre-forward in the winter. As the sports picture reported, the decision-makers around CEO Oliver Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic see sufficient quality in the squad to find internal solutions. Thomas Müller is of great importance.
The problems of the past few weeks, when FCB went through a phase of weakness in the Bundesliga, can instead be solved with an improved attitude, which also includes “more physicality in tackles, more determination in front of goal and in defence”. The clear victory in the top game against Freiburg was a step in the right direction.
After coach Julian Nagelsmann used new signing Sadio Mané in the center of the attack at the beginning, he has now abandoned this idea and has always played on the left wing for the Senegalese. The vacancy in the attack had to be filled against Freiburg by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who showed a strong game, after Müller was out for a short time. In the long run, however, it is only intended as a backup.
Müller, on the other hand, has demonstrated that the front-line position suits him, even if it’s not his prioritized role. In 19 Bundesliga games so far, in which Müller has acted as the sole striker, he has scored nine goals (127 minutes per goal), he has not been more efficient in any other position (46 goals in 160 games as a ten, 27 goals in 76 games in right midfield ).
“Of course Thomas can play the nine”, Hermann Gerland is quoted as saying, who always accompanied Müller on his way from youth to professional: “He may not be a real nine, but even with me as a young player in the third division he always has the Played nines when I didn’t have another.” Müller’s permanent move up a position would also free up space for youngster Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané, who played in attacking midfield against Pilsen and Freiburg and particularly shone against SC.

Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß recently said on Bayerischer Rundfunk that FCB was “definitely” missing a nine: “It was a difficult decision to give up Robert, with the risk of not scoring certain goals – like Modeste a meter in front of him Goal. FC Bayern have been linked to Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram in recent weeks and months.
