FC Bayern - Sepp Maier defends Manuel Neuer: "He's entitled to it"

After the fuss surrounding Manuel Neuer’s club-critical interviews, goalkeeping legend Sepp Maier has backed the captain of record champions FC Bayern Munich. The explosive statements were surprising, said Maier sports1-Interview: “But he’s entitled to it. He’s no longer a young professional, but the world goalkeeper.

The 36-year-old has “saved so many games for FC Bayern and always delivered top performances, so he can show his disappointment.” That is “human. We always appeal to humanity and then we condemn something like that.”

But Maier also explained: “The whole thing went a bit stupid, and there are only losers.” The procedure for the dismissal of goalkeeper coach Toni Tapalovic was “not Bayern-like”, criticized the 78-year-old: “Why wasn’t he explained?” The process reminds him very much of his departure from the DFB in 2004: “It’s almost identical to what is happening at FC Bayern right now.”

Neuer, who also wants to return to the DFB goal for the home European Championship in 2024, had publicly criticized Bayern for throwing out his closest confidant Tapalovic. The bosses announced internal talks with him.
