RB Leipzig - 1. FC Köln 3: 1: Nkunku dream goal paves victory against harmless billy goats

After returning to the Bundesliga, Schalke 04 prevented a complete false start at the last minute and collected the first point for the big goal of staying up in the league.

The drummer guard kept heating up the arena, the whole north stand sang songs about a life in blue and white or love that never ends.

The first point after the Bundesliga return, also so unexpectedly in the last second, transformed the Schalke 04 stadium into a haven of happiness. The 2:2 (1:0) against Borussia Mönchengladbach, fought with a lot of passion, gives the Royal Blues hope for a good season.

Kramer risks a strain: “That’s the way it has to work”

Marius Bülter had the honor and the pressure to take a hand penalty in the third minute of stoppage time. Patrick Herrmann had clearly deflected a cross into the penalty area, the VAR intervention was correct, there was no discussion. Bülter converted – and the fans jumped wildly behind the goal.

“He has the self-confidence, he takes the ball and puts it in with aplomb – that’s the way it has to work,” said Frank Kramer sky. The Schalke coach had sprinted off to cheer so much that a strain was to be feared. “I’m still in good shape when it comes to running,” Kramer reported.

In the 1800th Bundesliga game in the club’s history, Rodrigo Zalazar gave Schalke the lead (30th) in front of 62,271 spectators (sold out). Jonas Hofmann equalized (72′), Marcus Thuram (78′) turned the game around.

Schalke is waiting for changeover situations

The Ultras had celebrated the first home game in the upper house in 455 days with a huge choreo – hundreds of flags underlined a huge club logo. The climber started energetically, after four minutes Alex Krahl headed wide.

The Royal Blues initially let the Gladbach team have the ball. After winning the ball, the Gelsenkirchen team switched quickly. First Zalazar shot over the goal, then Bülter failed to goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

After the 3-1 defeat in Cologne, during which Schalke had three bad luck with VAR decisions, Kramer called for a compact defense. But after 20 minutes there were holes in the defensive structure: Gladbach had chances through interface passes.

Hofmann and Thuram turn the game

Schalke had the perfect answer to the first urge. Zalazar escaped and hit the bottom left corner from 20 meters. The game became more heated, and the last few minutes before the break were dominated by pitching.

Gladbach, who started the season with a 3-1 win over TSG Hoffenheim, couldn’t cope with the hosts’ tough but by no means unfair stance even after the break. Again and again Hofmann and Co. bounced off the strong Krahl, who won almost all important duels in defensive midfield.

In the closing stages, the attacking efforts of coach Daniel Farke’s team intensified. Hofmann and Thuram turned the game in favor of the guests within a few minutes, then Bülter came and made the stadium tremble.
