Fredi Bobic criticizes own club for relegation celebrations

Sport manager Fredi Bobic has criticized his own club Hertha BSC for celebrations after the Bundesliga relegation last May.

“In my opinion, relegation was too loud. You should have said: duty done, but we don’t have to have a huge party,” said Bobic, who moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to Berlin, the club’s own broadcaster, in the summer HerthaTV. “How you presented yourself to the outside world was wrong from my point of view.”

After the 0-0 draw on the penultimate matchday against 1. FC Köln and the resulting relegation, coach Pal Dardai, among others, went to the “current sports studio” of the with a cigar in his mouth ZDF let it switch on. The players are said to have celebrated in the team hotel.

Bobic took over the position of Managing Director Sport at the beginning of June. “At Hertha it was like being in office: We always did it that way, so let’s keep doing it,” recalled Bobic. “There was a lot of settler thinking, a lot of island thinking. Everyone did their own thing. Certainly to the best of their conscience and knowledge, but not together. After a short time I thought: This will not be an easy way to bring everyone together. It is a process of convincing everyone to go to the limit. “

After the first half of the season, Hertha are in eleventh place in the Bundesliga, the lead over the first relegation place is only five points. At the end of November, Dardai was replaced in the dugout by Tayfun Korkut.
