Freiburg inaugurates new stadium with a clear victory over St. Pauli

SC Freiburg has officially inaugurated its new sporting home. Eleven days after the emotional farewell to the Dreisamstadion, the strong Bundesliga team won a test match against FC St. Pauli in the newly built arena in the north-west of the city 3-0 (2-0). Vincenzo Grifo (17th / 29th) and Nishan Burkart (68th) scored against the second division side.

The first league game in the 34,700-seat Europa-Park Stadium will take place on October 16 against RB Leipzig. The arena next to the Freiburg airfield cost 76 million euros; construction began in November 2018.

For 67 years, the SC played in the Dreisam Stadium, to which the Freiburg Bundesliga women are now to move.
