Danny da Costa is moving from Eintracht Frankfurt to league rivals FSV Mainz 05 for the coming season. His new club announced this on Friday. The defender joins Mainz on a free transfer and has a contract until 2025.
“I’m very happy that Danny has accepted us,” said coach Bo Svensson: “He has immense sporting quality and is an outstanding guy who also has a lot of experience at national and international level.”
Da Costa had already played for Mainz on loan in the second half of last season and was convincing: “It’s no secret that he played a very important role in staying up last year,” said Svensson.
The 28-year-old also wants to build on the successful period of his loan and is looking forward to his return: “Mainz 05 has a special DNA, sporty and above all in cooperation,” said da Costa.
