Hans-Joachim Watzke: "For no money in the world" to FC Bayern

Hans-Joachim Watzke from BVB would never work for league rivals FC Bayern. The managing director of Borussia Dortmund explained this in an interview.

“There’s no price tag for that – I wouldn’t do it for any money in the world,” said the BVB boss in an interview with sports image: “I’ve been at BVB for 18 years, a fan since time immemorial, I’ll never leave all of that in the cloakroom.”

Oliver Kahn, who took part in the conversation as another interview partner, agreed with Watzke. Kahn explained that he had the opportunity to join FC Schalke 04 as manager in 2008 but turned it down: “When you’ve played for a club for 14 years, you don’t just go somewhere else.”

However, Watzke has no good memories of Kahn himself. Of course, the kung fu performance against Stephane Chapuisat on April 3, 1999 was formative. “I was in the stadium and cursed him like every Borussia man, that’s obvious,” said the managing director of Borussia Dortmund with a wink. He said directly to Kahn: “When you were in goal at Bayern, I was a lot less of a fan than when you played for the national team.”

Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern meet on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the Bundesliga classic at Signal-Iduna-Park.
