Hertha and Union in the future in front of 5000 spectators

Hertha BSC and Union Berlin will soon only be able to play in front of a maximum of 5,000 spectators. This was announced by Michael Müller, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, after a special session of the Senate on Friday.

According to this, from next Wednesday only 5000 spectators are allowed for outdoor events and 2500 spectators in the hall. Union’s home game against RB Leipzig on Friday (from 8.30 p.m. in the live ticker) is not yet affected.

The federal-state summit decided on Thursday that in future a maximum of 15,000 spectators and a maximum occupancy of 50 percent will be allowed. However, the federal states can impose stricter measures. The new rule will apply for the first time in the Olympic Stadium at Union’s Conference League home game against Slavia Prague on December 9th, and two days later Hertha will receive Arminia Bielefeld in the League.

Hertha responded to the decision with criticism. With 15,000 spectators in the almost 75,000 people in the Olympic Stadium, “under 2G conditions, including the requirement to wear a mask, the risk of infection is almost impossible, also with a view to the arrival situation.” The club described the reduction to 5,000 as “a poorly measured decision” and “incomprehensible”.
