Maria KeaneEx-Schalke star Gerald Asamoah was almost ready to move to Bayern Munich in 2005. But a fan chant in front of the TV cameras intervened.
According to Asamoah, there should have been contact between his advisor and the then Bayern manager Uli Hoeneß in 2005 to discuss a change from the then national player to the German record champions. “It was like that Bayern was talking to Hoeneß with my agent,” Asamoah told im image-Podcast phrase mower.
Immediately afterwards, the now 43-year-old and his Schalke team met Munich in the DFB Cup final, which the Royal Blues lost 2-1. After the game, Asamoah chanted “Put the bowl in Bayern’s ass” in front of running TV cameras, which of course was less popular with Bayern.
“Uli Hoeneß then contacted my advisor and asked: ‘How stupid is he?'” Said the striker. From then on, Bayern refrained from a transfer.
At the inauguration of the Allianz Arena, when Asamoah should have played with the German national team against Bayern, the then DFB coach Jürgen Klinsmann even deleted the striker from the squad to avoid an escalation of the conflict.
