Jeremie Frimpong instead of João Cancelo? FCB was probably already in talks

FC Bayern Munich is apparently already working on a successor for João Cancelo if the Portuguese does not stay with the record champions. According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, FCB have already held talks with the adviser to Bundesliga star Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer 04 Leverkusen).

If João Cancelo is not signed, FC Bayern should look for an alternative on the transfer market. The 22-year-old Frimpong has had an outstanding season for the Werkself, has been involved in 17 goals in 36 appearances and, together with Moussa Diaby, forms a fast-moving and dribbling right flank.

With Benjamin Pavard, Munich also has another right-back on the payroll whose future is unclear. Although the Frenchman had recently signaled that he could imagine staying, this may also have something to do with Julian Nagelsmann’s decision to use him in central defense again. Under Thomas Tuchel, Pavard once again played on the right defensive side in Tuchel’s first two games.

Frimpong switched from Glasgow Rangers to Leverkusen in 2021 for almost eleven million euros. Media reported that several top English clubs were interested in a transfer, including Manchester United, according to Romano. Now FC Bayern and FC Barcelona are said to have held talks with Frimpong advisor Jeffrey Lemmert.

Bayern’s priority, however, is to first clarify Cancelo’s future. It remains to be seen whether he will be committed at the end of the season for the coming season. FC Bayern has a purchase option for 70 million euros. Various media wrote that the price could be too high for the record champions, but that they might want to renegotiate with City.
