After FC Bayern’s 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann also struggled with the space in the Allianz Arena.

“The pitch is not easy to play on. We slip all the time. When it gets very tight and you make small, quick movements…” stressed Nagelsmann.

The coach continues: “Of course we have more of the ball, we have to create more. It’s really difficult on the pitch because it’s very soapy. Then many situations that might have worked out better before Christmas go away a bit.”

Leon Goretzka was not available to Bayern Munich against Frankfurt. Problems in the calf and inner thigh were the reason for his retirement.

The midfielder should be back for the cup game in Mainz on Wednesday. “I think it should work, I’m better,” said Goretzka table football.

After the draw against SBU, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn spoke in the mixed zone of the Allianz Arena about the bad start to 2023 with three draws in a row.

“I’d rather we’re in a difficult phase now than at the end of the season,” said Kahn. “But of course there is already a lot at stake. In Mainz we have to really step on the gas. We can’t put our horsepower on the pitch.”
