As the Picture reported on Tuesday, the 31-year-old has been training for a mixed martial arts fight in the fall against the Czech Martin Fenin (35), once a professional at Eintracht Frankfurt and Energie Cottbus, for three weeks. Organizer is “OKTAGON MMA”.
“I want to prove to myself and everyone out there that you can do anything if you really want it! The athlete in me will now conquer the toughest sport in the world, MMA,” said Pannewitz Picture.
For the fight in the weight limit of up to 83 kg, the former super talent will have to lose a lot of weight. Before training began, he weighed 139 kilograms.
Pannewitz made his breakthrough in the second division at Hansa Rostock in 2009 before moving to VfL Wolfsburg in 2013. However, he did not succeed in making the leap into the Bundesliga.
Instead, Pannewitz kept struggling with weight problems and indulged in other escapades. In recent years he had worked as a street sweeper in Berlin, among other things.
