Leading players apparently knew about Eberl-Aus in advance

New details about Max Eberl’s resignation as sports director at Borussia Mönchengladbach. As the sports picture reported, the 48-year-old wanted to resign at the turn of the year. Also, some selected players should have known in advance from the end.

As early as the end of September, the Gladbach leadership is said to have met with President Rolf Königs, Vice-President Rainer Bonhof, finance boss Stephan Schippers, squad planner Steffen Korell and Eberl. At that time, the Presidium still hoped to be able to convince the manager to stay at Borussia. At that time, however, Eberl was already considering resigning from his position on December 31st.

After another unsuccessful meeting shortly before Christmas, the decision to leave Eberl was only made immediately before the announcement. On Thursday, almost a week ago, Eberl is said to have unequivocally informed the presidency that he could no longer continue the employment relationship.

In addition, Eberl is said to have inaugurated selected leaders shortly after the meeting. These were apparently captain Lars Stindl, goalkeeper Yann Sommer and Christoph Kramer. It was not until the next day that the 48-year-old finally appeared in front of the entire team.

After five and a half years as a player, almost four years as a junior manager and more than 13 years as sports director, Eberl officially resigned from his position as Gladbach manager last Friday. He gave health problems as the reason.

“I’m ending what my life was. I have to draw a line. It’s not about football right now. It’s about me. I just want out,” said Eberl at the press conference.
