Lionel Messi arguably voted for Jude Bellingham at the Kopa Trophy

Lionel Messi (34) apparently also voted for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham (18) in the Kopa Trophy election for the best young player of the year. The Catalan reports Sports.

Messi was with the from France Football as one of 32 previous Ballon d’Or winners. According to the report, the Argentine gave three points to his ex-Barca-comrade Pedri, two points went to Bellingham and one point went to Messi’s PSG teammate Nuno Mendes.

Pedri finally won the vote with 89 points and prevailed ahead of Bellingham (39) and Jamal Musiala from FC Bayern (38). The young Spaniard succeeds Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, who was awarded the Kopa Trophy in 2019.

In his acceptance speech on Monday evening in Paris, Pedri paid tribute to his club Barca “and the people who supported me. The captains like Messi! Thank you for helping me.”

Messi himself was in the audience, after all, the Argentine was awarded the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time.
